2017 CERAMICS GLAZE COURSE (9th to 14th April) The emphasis is on personal development and suitable for a range of abilities, although some basic experience is useful. Glaze technology based on use of raw materials will be explained, along with practical sessions in Mixing glazes, Methods of application and Firing cycles. This information is applicable to both electric and fuel burning kilns. We will also look at a range of alternative Ceramic Surface treatments including textures, slips, oxides and masking techniques. Participants are invited to bring several pieces for glazing (if available, but not required) as there will be time for making and bisque firing of small test pieces. Inspiration for design, along with faults and remedies will be discussed. A visit to see larger architectural items is planned. Two stoneware Glaze kiln firings are on the agenda with results assessed, discussed and documented. The working day will be from 9:30 AM to 1 PM and from 2 PM to 5 PM, with optional evening work welcome. This years course will run during the week beginning the 9th April. The course will begin with an introductions on Sunday evening at 6pm and conclude with discussion of results on Friday; to finish after lunch at approximately 1 p.m. WHAT TO BRING: -- A selection of personal clay tools, along with a few bisque fired pieces and any special or raw materials you may wish to try (wood ashes for example). --Sketch pad and drawing materials. --Camera. --Note pad and pen. --Apron or overalls and towel. --Small scales, small lidded containers. ACCOMMODATION: Comfortable bed and breakfast accommodation can be arranged for you. 5 nights will cost approx. £175.00. We also have space available for camping or small caravan. --5 nights will cost £50.00 COST: The cost of your weeks tuition is £525.00. (Deposit £150.00) Balance due one month prior to course date. This includes all materials and firings, plus both lunch and evening meals, and tea and coffee during the day

Photographs taken during the recent demo for NPA/CPA day here this Summer. Now getting ready to go to Belgium tomorrow for a three day workshop at 'ATELIER CIRKEL' organized by Patty Wouters. Jim recently took a fall whilst carrying a large pot. Amongst other more minor injuries, he quite seriously injured the skin on his right hand (particularly three fingers). Since then he has had the bandages removed and his hand is well on the way to recovery, although there is still some way to go.
